  • Is it safe?
    Is it safe?

The safest way to whiten teeth is by using gel prescribed by a dental professional.

Whitening products that you can buy outside of your dentist only contain 0.1% hydrogen peroxide and very little active ingredient to whiten your teeth.

Some products don’t contain any whitening ingredients and contain harmful ingredients such as lemon juice, citric acid and bicarbonate soda to dissolve stains which can be damaging to teeth in the long term.

Therefore, ask your dentist for Philips Zoom! today.

Hydrogen peroxide - why is this not harmful?

Professional products contains safe levels of hydrogen peroxide which are more effective, gentle on enamel and custom made

How does it work? The tooth absorbs the hydrogen peroxide and breaks down the colour molecule to turn the tooth white from the inside as well as removing the stains from the outside

Some sensitivity is normal however this can be reduced dramatically with the addition of desensitizing agents. Zoom! take home gels have a unique desensitizer known as ACP that is shown to reduce sensitivity without compromising on result. Twice as many users/patients reported no sensitivity when using NiteWhite ACP versus whitening without ACP.

Frequently asked questions

  • What causes teeth to turn yellow?

There’s a range of reasons teeth become discoloured. Genetics, your environment, even taking certain medication can all have an impact on the whiteness of your smile.

The most common reason is surface stains on your enamel. This is down to everyday food, drinks and lifestyle choices. Over time, these stains can work their way to the layer below enamel, known as dentin. When this becomes stained, the whole tooth looks darker because of the translucency of enamel.

  • What should I expect?

You will need an examination to ensure you are suitable for whitening. It is also advisable to have your teeth cleaned before the treatment, which lasts approximately one hour.

You will lie in the dental chair with a soft mouth guard in place to protect your lips and ensure you are in a comfortable resting position. The gums, cheeks and lips will be protected so the whitening solution can be applied safely. Once the product is on your teeth, the Philips Zoom! Lamp is used to activate the whitening agent.

There will be four 15-minute sessions of whitening during the hour-long appointment. You will also receive custom-made whitening trays and a take-home whitening kit to top-up your smile when needed.

  • How long does the process take?

Philips Zoom! In-Chair treatment takes approximately an hour, but all whitening treatments take two visits and include check-ups, X-rays and a clean.

  • Is the procedure safe?

Yes, teeth whitening is safe. Studies have shown that when the procedure is carried out by a dental professional using EU compliant whitening products, whitening is safe for your teeth and gums.

  • Will it be uncomfortable?

Your mouth will be in a comfortable resting position during the procedure, and you will still be able to swallow. There is also little to no sensitivity reported, however you may experience an awareness of the whitening happening.

  • What are the side effects of whitening?

The most common side effect is sensitivity. All Philips Zoom! products contain special ingredients (potassium nitrate and Amorphous Calcium Phosphate ACP) that are proven to help reduce sensitivity, protect enamel and improve the lustre of teeth for a brighter smile.

  • How long will results last?

Philips Zoom! treatments are formulated to give you long-lasting results, but through food, drink, and lifestyle choices they can make them yellow again over time. Maintenance whitening at home can help combat this along with routine hygiene appointments.

  • What causes discolouration?

Red wine, coffee, tea and dark coloured foods/drinks all contribute to staining. Some medications, ageing, smoking and trauma can also cause tooth discolouration.
